2015 Helsinki FI
In November 2015 the first The Air We Share took place in Helsinki, Finland.
During three months Mad House produced a multitude of live art events in Tiivistämö, a huge hall in the former industrial area of Suvilahti in Helsinki. On the program were three performance art evenings, one of those was Art Contact, a work group organizing many experimental live art events in Helsinki since 2005. In these events various artists would present their art actions, mostly solo, sometimes collaborations.
This time something else would take place. A try-out of a new concept whereby all artists were asked to present their work simultaneously in the same space for a limited amount of time, in this case one hour. Ten artists of various art fields, all used to perform solo, shared the attention of a curious audience.
All works were recognizable as solo actions but within this hour some art pieces seem to connect for a while. Unintentional coincidences. Sound, image, movement and action - all the time changing, depending on the perspective. The audience was asked to move around and they did, coming close to individual actions, leaving these to approach other actions. Every member of the audience created thereby his/her own live art experience.
The artists involved were invited by initiator and organizer Willem Wilhelmus. They were all local artists of all ages and with varying levels of experience. None of them collaborated with any other of the artists. Some didn't even know each other. As a preparation and tuning in they all came together for a dinner prepared by visual artist Egle Oddo, who stressed the importance for the artists of "having the same soup in their bellies".
The artists were: Antonin Brinda, performance art - Anu Aamu Aurora Pulkkinen, vocals - Hepa Halme, wind instruments - Inari Virmakoski, performance art - Jenny Suhonen, performance art - Jolijn de Wolf, performance art - Marek Pluciennik, film projection - Pilvi and Anton, live art - Roi Vaara, performance art and Willem Wilhelmus, performance art.
